This funny sculpture came in the mail today, a fish on wheels with cams and cranks for three flapping fins and a jaw that opens just enough to see a little person frantically rowing a boat inside.

give us this day our daily thread
Kelly McKaig does interesting stitching experiments and takes beautiful pictures of them and other textures, and other artfully pleasing things. She is a talented stylist who puts together a nice experience on Instagram and her own website. As we're counting the days until freedom, it's nice to discover new ways to make the days count!

making your own masks
The CDC has great patterns for masks including some you can make from tshirts without any elastic or a sewing machine. I adapted one pattern using three layers of a piece of a tea towel and one continuous elastic strap. I also added a wide twistie from a coffee bag so I can pinch the cloth over my nose. The elastic length can be determined before the final stitch, making a snug custom fit. A tabby or plain weave is the smallest tightest weave and better than knits that are looser structures designed to stretch.

future's memory
Imagine the horror of these old diseases when there was less medical and scientific knowledge. Hopefully one day covid will become a word like polio or rubella--unfamiliar.
