children's books 88

The Rainbow Book is a collection of poems originally written in Russian by Samuil Marshak (called Poems for Children) and translated by Dorian Rottenberg.  There are lots of fun illustrations for which Mai Miturich won a silver medal at the International Book Illustrators Exhibition held in Leipzig in 1965.  I love the quality of his watercolors and the glow he keeps by using just a few concise strokes.  The groupings of animals and balance of the pages are joyous and playful.

eggsactly

Did you know eggs are good for gettng rid of hangovers?  When the liver breaks alcohol down, it makes acetaldehyde, and eggs contain cysteine which breaks down that toxin.  Apparently it's the perfect food--for everything!

Sherwood shenanigans

My favorite Christmas present was a project my mom put together for my two brothers and me: a framed picture of us in clever costumes she made when I was three years old. We walked for a mile in the Loganville, PA Halloween parade and won first place for groups, each receiving a silver dollar.
