hooked

It was very kind of Verta Rodenhiser to make a little sampler and show me her rug hooking techniques recently at Wishing Stones Gallery.  It was also very interesting to learn that her husband handmakes her hooks by grinding down nails and sanding wood into handles.  After using one of hers and a few store-bought hooks, I can see why her custom hooks are perfect in size and shape to go through the burlap and grab the strips of cloth.  Here below are just a few of Verta's fun original designs for rugs that have been purchased at Wishing Stones Gallery on Big Tancook Island.

let's go laughing

It was an incredibly entertaining hour at Freak Lunchbox today.  I won't spoil the surprises coming to some, but I can say my personal favorite items of all the glorious gags in this wondrous store are the pickle, hand and feet finger puppets!  There are seven stores across Canada, and I had a super fun afternoon laughing with my cousin and her kids at the Bedford, Nova Scotia store.

commiserating critters

Author Brene Brown has great thoughts about empathy vs sympathy cleverly shown in this wonderful animated video made by RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce).

petite peeps

My creative cousin, Hillary Dionne, made a lovely new addition to her Wishing Stones Gallery: a mouse house! Just inside the door, little peepholes in the cupboard let kids young and old view the adorable rooms she made.  She has photographed real mice interacting with the tiny furniture for her book, Gallery Mouse, which can be purchased at her shop.
