paint the town red

Here's a detail of my latest project for an adult coloring book. I like the tiny patterns and shapes so far, I think it'll be fun to color.  There are lots more details to add, especially the clock hands!

good reads

If you like to read snippets about everything, subscribe to Delanceyplace to get "eclectic excerpts delivered to your email every day."  They gather fascinating stories from history, like today's selection from The West by Geoffrey C. Ward about the convergence of the Central Pacific and the Union Pacific Railroads.  If you buy the featured book through their site, the profits are given to children's literacy organizations.  Founder Richard Vague says,"Most of the time, we simply don't have time to gain a more complete understanding of things we encounter and so we try to fit things into patterns we find familiar. But history is more unpredictable than fiction and when told well, we can learn how it breaks from these familiar patterns. The best authors show us a reality underneath the accepted storyline that is often unexpected — and instructive."
