appealing allovers

Here are five possibilities for the most excellent pattern from my colossal fabric collection, and there are probably many more.  I've been rooting through every piece and reorganizing every box to find the right one for my next big pillow project.

children's books 81.82.83

a few more selections from my lovely library
Another beautiful book by Marie Hall Ets is Elephant in a Well.  Elephant was playing with a clothesline when she fell into a well and couldn't get out.  Horse, Cow, Goat, Pig, Lamb and Dog all try to help, but only when Mouse joins the effort are they successful.

Jeremy Draws a Monster, written and illustrated by Peter McCarty, is a funny book about a very demanding monster.  He makes Jeremy draw many things for him like a hot dog, a television, and a hat, and he never says thank you.  Eventually Jeremy realizes what the monster really needs!

Crictor, written and illustrated by Tomi Ungerer, is a delightful book about a woman who receives a snake for her birthday and makes him feel at home.  He becomes helpful to the students she teaches, as a jump rope for the girls and a rope to tie knots for the boys.  Crictor becomes loved by all in the town when he bravely catches a thief.

Table Tennis Tournament

I made it only to the second round but had tons of fun at Mike Lahti's annual ping pong playoff.  My brother Nick made it to the final four.  About 25 people competed, and once again Dave Lahti (on the left in sock feet) won.

a reason to smile

Did you know that strawberries can whiten your teeth?  Mash a big strawberry, add a pinch of baking soda, and stir to form a paste.  Brush with it for a few minutes and the malic acid in it will lighten stains. It also breaks down tooth enamel, though, so right afterwards rinse with water and a neutral mouthwash.

Gifted Graphics

If you are scripturient, the "A-Z of Unusual Words" will help expand your vocabulary.  Drawn by The Project Twins, James and Michael Fitzgerald, the collection shows off nicely the style and clever visual interpretations of ideas the pair exude in all their work.
